PSALM 115:1-18 – UNTO THY NAME GIVE GLORY

PSALM 115:1-18 – UNTO THY NAME GIVE GLORY
With Commentary by Mrs. Ari D. Hidalgo

Psalm 115
1 Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.
2 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?
3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
5 They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
6 They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
7 They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.
8 They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.
9 O Israel, trust thou in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.
10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.
11 Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.
12 The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great.
14 The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.
15 Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth.
16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.
17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.
18 But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.

Shalom Dear Ones In The Glorious Name Of Our LORD.

The Psalm of the day: Psalm 115:1-18

Introductory Thought: … “UNTO THY NAME GIVE GLORY.”( VERSE 1A).

LE-SHIM-CHA: (TO YOUR NAME) TEN: (GIVEN) KA-VOD: (GLORY).

The desire of the Psalmist is The LORD God should no longer be the object of the heathens insults. It is sad when God is not feared, generally speaking, by the world. But, how about us as His children. Help us O Lord at all times to have a humble heart before You and others.

As we continue, the Psalmist says …

The heathens make fun of God’s existence, therefore they say, there is no help for Israel, and even we have heard these words over and over against us as believers (born again by the Spirit of God).

“Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?” (Verse 2).

When the nation of Israel, by the power of God, marched into the land of Israel, the people, that is the nations (heathens), were terrified. It was because, they experienced the presence of the Almighty God of Heaven and earth, that He was alive with might, and power over all people and nations.

The Word of God tells us that The Lord is a jealous God for His honor, and for His Name sake. And for His pleasure He will meet out justice for His children, which include all who are born again believers (the called out assembly).

Just because He is The God of all mercy, and truth, no matter if we are believers, we should never take advantage of our position. For example, experiencing the mercy of God in our lives on a daily basis, and then letting our guard down, giving the enemy of our soul ammunition he needs to insult, and dishonor the name of our God The Creator of heaven and earth Whom we proclaim to be great in our lives.

Let us continue remembering this important Scripture.

(Galatians 6).

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man (woman) soweth, that shall he (she) also reap.”
(Verse 7).

It is sad when, we as believers, let ourselves be the instruments of dishonor giving non-believers ammunition in their hands to ridicule the might and power of God that is with us and in us.

Our cry unto Yeshua our Lord is for Him to help us in the time when our faith is not strong where it should be.

In our Scripture we will briefly cover 3 thoughts: The Truth: (Verses 1-3); The Tragedy: (Verses 4-8); The Trust: (Verses 9-11)

THE TRUTH: (VERSES 1-3) (EMET).

“Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for they mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.”
(Verse 1).

The truth spoken of that we have from The Lord is His Word that says He is to be glorified … give glory to Thy Name … He continues to say … not unto us, but for Your truth’s sake.

May we be instruments of honor instead of dishonor for His names sake.
(Isaiah 61).

“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.”
(Verse 3).

Some times the nations, for a season are permitted to blaspheme the Name of God. We see this today, and it seems that it is for such a long time; but God allows it to be so, in order that they may fill up their cup of iniquity, so that the full measure of punishment will be give out at the hand of God.

Next thought …

THE TRAGEDY: (VERSES 4-8) ah-SOHN

The Psalmist says the heathen’s (Gentiles) …

“Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands”.
(Verse 4).

The tragedy of the work of men’s hands in the above Scripture (Verse 4) is everyone who gets involved, consumed with the idols of the heathens are putting their trust in something that is dead.

When God’s people involve themselves with the idols of the heathens, silver, gold, precious stones, etc., it meant destruction for them. Remember the wilderness experience that the children of Israel went through, making a golden calf to worship and how it ended with tragedy, for many lives died in one day. As the Psalmist says …The idols can not speak, see, hear, smell, they are dead.

The Lord continues to instruct the people of Israel to trust in Him.

Next thought …

THE TRUST: (VERSES 9-11) BATACH

“O Israel, trust thou in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.”
(Verse 9).

The trust is for God’s elect to keep close to Him Whom He has chosen from the foundation of the world. Don’t fear The God of Jacob who is our hope, help, and shield. He is always present in the time of need.

Take a look at Hebrews 4 …

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
(Verse16).

In closing: “THE LORD HATH BEEN MINDFUL OF US:”
(VERSE 12). “YAHWEH / ZE CHA RA-NU”

The Psalmist says it will be in the way of blessing.

“The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aar’on.”
(Verse 12).

The days that we are living in are without a doubt very difficult. When we hear God’s Words of encouragement, especially from other believers these encouraging words, as in our closing thought …

“The LORD hath been mindful of us”, is a breath of fresh air to remember that He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

“If God be for us, who can be against us?”
(Romans 8:31b).

The answer is NO BODY!

Just in case Israel or we as believers (called out assembly) forget, he reminds us that we are on His heart, even while we are going through affliction He will never leave us nor forsake us. He assures us that He is with us and will bless us. Take a look at … (Isaiah 49).

“Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.”
(Verse 15).

“Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; ‘thy walls are continually before me.”
(Verses16).

Going back to Psalm 115 as we close. The Psalmist says …

“Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.”
(Verse 11).

The LORD will not forget His chosen. “The LORD hath been mindful of us:” He will multiply, and give increase.

“The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.”
(Verse 14).

“The dead praise not the LORD,”
(Verse 17a).

“But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.”
(Verse 18).

Shalom dear ones, may the LORD bless you on this wonderful day that He has made.
