Psalm 114:1-8 – At the presence of the Lord

Psalm 114:1-8 – At the presence of the Lord
With commentary by Mrs. Ari D. Hidalgo

Psalm 114
1 When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;
2 Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.
3 The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.
5 What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
6 Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;
8 Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

Shalom dear ones in the blessed Name of The LORD.

The Psalm of the day: Psalm 114:1-8. “at the presence of the Lord,”
(Verse 7a).

In Hebrew: “mil-lif-Nei:(the presence) A-don: (of the Lord).”

The Psalmist begins with the fulfillment of prophecy.

“When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;”
(Verse 1).

This is the fulfillment of Genesis 15. God brought Israel out of Egypt!

The Lord came to Abram in a vision and spoke unto him of things that would come to pass.

“And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.”
(Verse 12).

“And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;”
(Verse 13).

“And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.”
(Verse 14).

Abram’s seed would be a stranger in a land, and be afflicted for 400 hundred years, and afterward God would bring them out with great spoil. He fulfilled His promise to Abram.

In our Psalm we read in verse 1 that Israel went out of Egypt, even the sea saw it …

“The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.”
(Verse 3a).

“The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.”
(Verse 4).

Here is a question that is presented in verse 5 …

“What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest?
thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?”

The answer … “… at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; clearly describing to us who the Lord is by saying … the God of Jacob (Israel), Who is the Creator of heaven and earth.

“Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob.”
(Verse 7).

All of creation that are mentioned fled, was driven back, trembled at the presence of the Lord God Who is the Creator.

I was reminded of a Scripture in the New Covenant found in Matthew 26 when Jesus our Lord was announcing to His disciples that He was about to be betrayed.
(Verse 46).

Judas, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus brought a great multitude with swords from the chief priests and elders of the people.
(Verse 47).

One of his disciples, name not mentioned in Matthew until you turn to John 18:11 who says it was Peter was about to defend Jesus and drew a sword and struck a servant of the high priest’s and took off his ear. Jesus told him to put up his sword.

(Matthew 26) Jesus said …

“Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?”
(Verse 53).

“But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?”
(Verse 54).

As mention above, the book of John chapter 18 also records this same event, the betrayal of Jesus, only the disciple who drew his sword and smote off a servant of the high priest is mentioned by name, Peter. (John 18:11).

We read that no one could stand up against Jesus for they all fell backward to the ground.

Staying in John we read …

“Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?”
(Verse 4).

“They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.”
(Verse 5).

“As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.”
(Verse 6).

No one could take or harm Jesus, unless He would give them the authority or consent to do so.

Nothing can stand up against “…the presences of the Lord,” “…the presences of the God of Jacob (Israel).” (Psalm 114).

He is all powerful, and has everything under control. In His time He will bring to pass all that He has spoken of concerning Himself, and the things to come from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation.

In closing: “The God of Jacob (Israel)”
(Verse 7b)

He is the One, as we read in Psalm 113 …

“Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.”
(Verse 8).

He is the One we want to trust in at all times. He is the One to be praised …

“From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised.”
(Verse 3).

(Psalm 113).

“Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.”
(Verse 1).

“Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.”
(Verse 2).

The LORD bless you dear ones as you go out and come in.

(Psalm 121).

“The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”
(Verse 8).
