Psalm 113:1-9 – The rising of the sun

Psalm 113:1-9 The rising of the sun – (verse 3a)
With commentary by Mrs. Ari D. Hidalgo

Psalm 113 – verses 1-9
1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.
2 Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.
3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.
4 The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,
6 Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
7 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
8 That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
9 He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.

Shalom (Peace), Dear Ones let us praise the name of the LORD our God ‘who dwelleth on high’, (Verse 5b).

The Psalm of the day: Psalm 113:1-9.

Introductory thought:

“the rising of the sun” (verse 3a).
In Hebrew: mi-miz-rach: from the rising
she-mesh: of the sun

Our introductory thought is a reminder to every one the name of our LORD needs to be praised from early morning when the sun comes up until the evening when it goes down. (Verse 3).

It is interesting that the word ‘Sun’ in Hebrew is ‘Shemesh’, and it does not appear in the Scriptures dealing with creation. In fact, the Hebrew word that is used throughout the first chapter of Genesis for ‘Sun’ is ‘OR’ which is ‘Light’. Therefore, the ‘Sun’ is referred to as ‘The Greater Light’.

It is not until we go to Genesis chapter fifteen that we actually find, for the first time, the common Hebrew word for ‘Sun’ which is ‘Shemesh’. It is interesting the time the word ‘Sun’ is mentioned in Hebrew by name it has to do with ‘The Abrahamic Covenant’.

Dr. Hidalgo so often times brought to our attention that the rising of the sun, which is an every day occurrence, reminded him of The Lord’s faithfulness, and orderliness, for the sun always rises in the east and sets in the west. He’d say Ari … be faithful unto the Lord, and as a former soldier in the Air Force, furthermore, be orderly. These are two good and godly instructions we need to exercise every day in our life.

Let us look in Genesis 15 where we find ‘Sun’ in Hebrew ‘Shemesh’ .

“And it came to pass, that, when the sun (shemesh) went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.” (Verse 17).

“In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram,”
(Verse 18a).

We understand by this the LORD has no need of the ‘Sun’ (‘Shemesh’) as we do, for He lightens (as a burning lamp) everything by His very presence.

The Word of God, not only speaks about Heaven, it clearly reveals to us that God is ‘The Eternal Light’ … In the book of Revelation 22 says …

“And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light; and they shall reign for ever and ever.”
(Verse 5).

Therefore, when the Psalmist speaks of the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, and as we experience this wonderful change from night to day, it does remind us as believers the soon return of our blessed Lord, Yeshua (Jesus) our Messiah.

He is coming again, and we look for this special day when our bodies will experience a glorious change that will take place as mentioned in I Corinthians 15.

“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
(Verse 52).

As we wait for this wonderful event to take place in our lives, let us as God’s servants respond to what the Psalmist says in Psalm 113 these verses.

“Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.”
(Verse 1).

“Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.”
(Verse 2).

“From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised.”
(Verse 3).

May the LORD bless us His dear servants as we praise the name of the Lord, and look for that special day of His return.

(Luke 21:). This chapter speaks of events that are going to take place in the last days.

“But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.”
(Verse 9).

There will be nation fighting against nation, great earthquakes, famines, persecute, delivering you into prisons for my name’s sake. (Verses 10-12).

When all things mentioned in Luke 21 begin to come to pass…

“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
(Verse 28).

Revelation 22 is our cry too!

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
(Verse 20b).
