PSALM 111:1-10 – THE WORKS OF THE LORD

Psalm 111, verses 1-10
With commentary by Mrs. Ari D. Hidalgo

Psalm 111, verses 1-10

1 Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.
2 The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.
3 His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
4 He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.
5 He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.
6 He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.
7 The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.
8 They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Shalom Dear Ones who fear the LORD,

The Psalm of the day: Psalm 111:1-10

The Psalmist begins this Psalm with Praise verse 1 which is our introductory thought.

“PRAISE YE THE LORD:” (VERSE 1A). ‘HAL LU YAH’

Did you notice the Psalmist continues to say… “I will praise the LORD with my whole heart.” (Verse 1a)
(‘Yahweh bekal lebab’).

It is because of GOD’s wonderful works that the Psalmist is praising Him with his whole heart which is our first thought.

“THE WORKS OF THE LORD:” (VERSE 2A) (MAASE YAHWEH) (VERSES 1-10).

We see that they are “GREAT”.

“The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.”
(Verse 2).

We see that His works are”GLORIOUS” “to be remembered: (Verses 3-4)

“His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.”
(Verse 3).

We see that He is “GENEROUS”,

He will give them (Israel) the heritage of the heathen.

“He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.”
(Verse 6).

Also, we see His works they are “GRAND”. They are sure and forever and forever.

“The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.”
(Verse 7).

“They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.”
(Verse 8).

Lastly His works are “GOOD”,

“He sent redemption unto his people; he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.”
(Verse 9).

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.”
(Verses 9-10).

Look with me in the book of Luke 7 we have the wonderful works of the LORD that are GREAT, GLORIOUS, GENEROUS, GRAND, GOOD. One of His great and powerful works was demonstrated in the life of a centurion, a gentile, who loved the nation of Israel, and showed it by building them a synagogue.

One day the centurion’s servant, who he loved, was very sick, ready to die. When he heard about Jesus sent for Him. And when Jesus was near to the house of the centurion, he, the centurion, sent his friends to Jesus saying in Luke 7.

“And when they come to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying,That he (the centurion) was worthy for whom he should do this:”
(Verse 4).

“For he (the centurion) loveth our nation (Israel), and he hath built us a synagogue.”
(Verse 5).

“Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou should enter under my roof:”
(Verse 6).

“Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.”
(Verse 7).

The end of the story is …

“When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed, him, I say unto you,I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel .”
(Verse 9).

When his friends returned to the house, they found the servant healed that had been sick.

“Praise ye the LORD”, ( ‘Hal lu Yah’), is our cry!

We are born in sin, and spiritually in darkness. Yeshua, Jesus our Lord has healed us out of this darkness to His wonderful light. With His precious blood He shed, cleansed and wash our sins as whiter as snow. By God’s grace through faith in His Beloved Son we are saved eternally.

By God’s grace through faith in Him, He has made us heavenly creatures bound together eternally.

With our whole heart we thank you dear Lord for your marvelous work of love, while we were yet sinners, you died for us.

Hallelujah , what a Saviour, Jesus is mine and yours!

Going back to our Psalm …

“He (Yeshua our Lord) hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.”
(Verse 4).

A closing thought to be remembered: “Fear the LORD”.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.”
(Verse 10).

May the LORD bless you dear ones with His wonderful works that are great, glorious, generous, grand, good.

In Yeshua’s Precious Name,

Mrs. Ari D. Hidalgo
