Psalm 109

PSALM 109

With commentary by Mrs. Ari D. Hidalgo

Psalm 109

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

1 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;
2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
3 They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.
4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.
5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.
6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.
8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.
12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.
13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
15 Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
16 Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.
18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.
19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.
20 Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.
21 But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name’s sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.
22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.
24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.
25 I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.
26 Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy:
27 That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it.
28 Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.
29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.
30 I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.
31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

Shalom Dear Ones In The Blessed Comforter Of Our Soul,

We hope that you will have a restful day in The Lord.

The Psalm of the day: Psalm 109:1-31

The Apostle Saul Paul says in the book of Romans 8: these words …

‘What shall we then say to these things?’
(Verse 31a).

The answer is in the next part of this verse which is our introductory that …

Introductory Thought: “If God be for us, who can be against us?”
(Romans 8: 31b).

There are many wonderful comforts such as this one from our LORD and His Word that is soothing to a heavy heart. Our Lord is concerned with His people Israel, and we who are saved by God’s grace through faith in the Gospel Message of Salvation. He has bought us with a heavy price, the very life of His Beloved Son Yeshua, (Jesus) our Lord Who gave His life for us.

He takes care of His own. He is The Good Shepherd Who takes care of His sheep.

Although He allows discouraging things to come into our live, we are instructed not to be pre-occupied or allow them to get us down, but rather, by faith, keep living for the Lord, knowing that nothing can separate us from His love.

(In the book of Romans 8) we read these comforting words. Take a look.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”
(Verse 35).

“As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
(Verse 36).

“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
(Verse 37).

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,”
(Verse 38).

“Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Verse 39).

The Lord’s Word is true, and may we take hold of this wonderful truth in our lives.

(In the book of Romans 8). We continue…

“If God be for us, who can be against us?”
(Verse 31b).

The Psalmist shares his discouragements in verses 1-5.

(1) “Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;”
(Verse 1).

(2) “For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth
of the deceitful are opened against me: they
have spoken against me with a lying
tongue.”
(Verse 2).

(3) “They compassed me about also with words
of hatred; and fought against me without a
cause. ”
(Verse 3).

(4) “For my love they are my adversaries: but I
give myself unto prayer.”
(Verse 4).

(5) “And they have rewarded me evil for good,
and hatred for my love.”
(Verse 5).

What malicious behavior of people called the wicked and deceitful that we have just read. They have fought against the Psalmist, lying about him. He says …

“For my love they are my adversaries:”
(Verse 4a).

“And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.”
(Verse 5).

This would be enough to bring on much pain, stress, heartache that does not go away very easy.

Especially when the maliciousness would come from his own family, or his brethren.

Through all of the pain and suffering the Psalmist says that he gives himself unto prayer. Take a look.

“but I give myself unto prayer.”
(Verse 4b).

(In Psalm 57). Also we read …

“I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.” (Verse 2).

It is obvious in The Holy Bible that one day the righteous that are in Christ Jesus our Lord will be rewarded, and the unrighteous will be punished.

Going back to our Psalm …

The Lord will bring this to pass, as we read in the last verse these words …

“For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.” (Verse 31).

In the beginning of the Psalm, King David says these words.

“Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;”(Verse 1).

He calls upon the Lord to mete out judgement.

In the last verse …

We see his faith in action when he says that the LORD …

“For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.”
(Verse 31).

God is our helper in our poor and needy state, therefore, we need not to fear the one adversary of our soul who will try to harm our physical being, but, who we need to fear is God who has power to destroy both soul and body.

(In the book of Romans 8).

“If God be for us who can be against us?”
(Verse 31b).

The adversary of our soul would like to cripple us in our life in some way that we would not be any good for the Lord and His work.

We have an example of satan trying in the Psalmist’s life, how about Job’s life. He was a man who feared God, eschewed evil, and is numbered with Noah and Jacob as being a perfect man, (they had no other gods in their lives).

Yet, we find Job suffering in a great way. He lost his family, friends, his health gone, all of his wealth gone, though discouraged, he remained true to the Lord our God, for he loved and worshipped Him.

Question? “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”
(Romans 8:35a).

Nothing shall separated us from the love of Christ.

“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
(Verse 37).

“In all of this Job sinned not nor charged God foolishly.”
(Job 1:22).

Just as we find our Psalmist doing in verse1,
calling upon God.

“O God of my praise;”
(Verse 1b).

In closing: The end of Job’s life was better than his beginning of his life.

When we put our trust in the LORD at all times,

(Romans 8).

“If God be for us, who can be against.”
(Verse 31b).

Therefore, our end will be better than our beginning.

Therefore, we want to encourage each other to keep doing that which is good, and pleasing unto the LORD, Who is ‘The Keeper of our soul’.

The Lord bless you dear ones for giving yourself unto prayer, and praising unto the Lord at all times.

In Yeshua’s Precious Name,
Mrs. Ari D. Hidalgo
